Codes & Constitutions
This section contains information on three documents: The Code Noir, the L'Ouverture Constitution of 1801, and the Dessalines' Constitution of 1804. These documents are significant to the understanding of freedom and liberty in Haiti in those times. Also, they can be used to examine how the freedoms of the Haitian people changed. The primary change in freedom brought about by the Haitian Revolution was the abolition of slavery, yet it was changed further still from the 1801 constitution to the 1804 constitution.
